Who Are ThereisBear!?
Drama. Comfort. Inspiration. Things that go bump in the night…
ThereisBear! Theatre is a company based in Galway, Ireland. Formed in 2012, this group of NUIG drama students and alumni decided to come together to bring their art to the world.
Following a highly successful Fundit Campaign and many fundraising events, the group brought a production of The Last Burning by Patrick Galvin on a national tour, to critical acclaim. Subsequent productions in 2013 included Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Druid Lane Theatre, Galway), Angels in America Part 1 (Galway, Athlone, Dublin) and Ballykilldowna (Galway Fringe Festival).
ThereisBear! Theatre have just completed our first ever simultaneous tour, with Christina Reid’s Joyriders taking place in Nun’s Island Theatre, Galway and Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus in the Boy’s School, Smock Alley, Dublin, both during the week 5th-12th of January, 2014. These productions then swapped places and continued their runs on opposite sides of the country!
Joyriders completed its tour in Lyon, France for the ReuTeuLeu Festival with great success, playing to a full theatre of 250 people. 'Terminus returned to Chancery Lane Theatre to finish its tour with a phenomenal ten nights stay.
Finally, our Spring Programme has fully wrapped up with the completion of The Merchant of Venice which took place in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway as part of the Cúirt International Festival of Literature... We are all delighted to report that the entire thing came off splendidly! From our Shakespeare Workshops, to International tour dates, to our site-specific productions - we could not have asked for a better start to 2014!
